Full Job Description

Clinical:

The successful appointee will an opportunity to work mainly with all the Respiratory consultants based on Ward 29 at the Freeman Hospital which is the primary respiratory ward as well as the ward 38 which is the primary transplant ward based at the Institute of Transplantation at the Freeman Hospital.

A clear timetable of duties will be provided, but there will be the opportunity to experience some of the other specialist services indicated above, depending on individual interest with the broad case-mix of patients that are referred to attend the Freeman hospital both regionally and nationally with many forms of advanced lung disease. The timetabling of core duties will be determined with Educational Supervisor and Head of Department.

The department also provides a daily respiratory consultation and pleural service to other departments that present a unique opportunity for gaining experience with other regional services, namely Haematology, Bone marrow transplantation, renal and hepatology services, including renal and liver transplant patients, and a regional oncology service.

Administrative:

Responsibility for in-patient electronic records and discharge summaries for those patients admitted to the ward and communication with Specialist referring teams and General Practitioners regionally and nationally across the United Kingdom as necessary. Responsibility for updating participant records in Targeted Lung Health Checks bespoke software system.

Other:

Participation in the weekly Regional ST Teaching Programme is encouraged, plus attending GIM monthly teaching. This post includes on call cover which is for Freeman respiratory and transplant services out of hours on the middle grade rota alongside the respiratory specialist trainees; this is non-resident. This would attract the appropriate banding supplement. On call duties include cover for new admissions and existing respiratory patients on ward 29, as well as respiratory and lung transplant patients based on outlying wards such as ward 25 and 30 in the Cardiothoracic block, and ward 38 based at the Institute of Transplantation. There is support from the Hospital at Night team overnight at Freeman.
