Full Job Description

The Renal Department at the James Cook University Hospital deals with all aspects of renal Medicine including AKI, CKD, pre dialysis care, early post-transplant care, peritoneal dialysis, haemodialysis with a growing home haemodialysis service. The unit comprises of a 24 bedded acute ward which includes an acute dialysis bay; a 20-station dialysis unit on site; and 4 satellite dialysis units. It provides outreach outpatient and inpatient services to 5 neighbouring hospitals.

Inpatient work involves dealing with complications in dialysis and transplant patients; investigation and treatment of acute nephrological problems; elective renal procedures; vascular access surgery and intervention; seeing referrals on other wards and a daily in-reach service to critical care. There is also a dedicated Day Unit open 5 days a week, run by a team of 11 specialist nurses.

The Trust Doctor post is not officially approved by the Postgraduate Dean; however you will be offered first-rate experience and exceptional training under close supervision. There are excellent opportunities for career progression within the Trust. Full GMC registration with a licence to practice is required.

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Renal Department at The James Cook University Hospital, to commence November 2024. This post is suitable for those who have had at least three years clinical experience in medicine and has preferably had some exposure to renal medicine. The appointment will initially be for six months, but the precise details of the contract are negotiable.

The James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough has all its specialties on one site which is unique for a hospital of its size. The Trust's workforce of around 9,000 provides a range of specialist regional services to 1.5million people in the Tees Valley and parts of Durham, North Yorkshire and Cumbria, with a particular expertise in heart disease, major trauma, neurosciences, renal services, cancer services and spinal injuries.
