Full Job Description

o To provide medical care to patients on cardiac intensive care and ensure efficient service delivery within cardiac intensive care serviceso Co-ordinate care of children on cardiac intensive care, including those with complex congenital heart disease, extracorporeal life support or ventricular assist device, and children admitted under the highly specialised services.o To work in close co-operation with the wider multi-disciplinary team including cardiology, cardiac surgery, respiratory and intensive care serviceso To participate in administrative commitments including discharge summaries, protocol development, audit, teaching and clinical supervision of traineeso To attend weekly clinical governance meetings and present cases

These posts are suitable for a specialty trainee (ST6 and above), equivalent trainee, or post CCST to gain additional specialist experience and open to both national and international applicants.

The Cardiac Intensive Care Unit at Great Ormond Street Hospital with 19 commissioned beds is one of the largest in the UK dedicated to the care of children with congenital and acquired heart disease with over 700 admissions annually.

The unit provides comprehensive care for critically ill children with complex heart disease including nearly 600 open heart surgeries/year. In addition, the unit provides care for 5 highly specialised services which include extracorporeal life support (ECLS) for neonatal and paediatric respiratory failure, mechanical circulatory support including ventricular assist devices (VAD) programme, heart/lung transplantation (largest in Europe), dedicated national Tracheal programme and national paediatric Pulmonary Hypertension Service., GOSH is committed to recruiting the best person for the job, based solely on their ability and individual merit as measured against the criteria for the role; through a process that is fair, open, consistent and free from bias and discrimination.
