Full Job Description
There are 12 Consultant Surgeons together with Specialist Registrars, Core Surgical Trainees and Foundation Trainees. The department provides a wide range of in-patient and day case procedures and provides emergency and elective general surgery services as well as subspecialty services in Colorectal, Breast and Upper GI. The department has an excellent reputation for laparoscopic surgery and performs significant numbers of laparoscopic colorectal resections, groin and ventral hernia repairs and fundoplications each year. The laparoscopic approach is routine for appendectomy and cholecystectomy (both elective and emergency). The breast unit perform over 250 cancer resections per year with both immediate and delayed reconstructions. Complex abdominal wall reconstructions are undertaken regularly for complex/giant incisional hernia.
We have opportunities for Lower Level Trust Grade Doctors Equivalent to F1 Level posts, available within the General Surgery and Urology teams at The Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust to start as soon as possible or . The posts are for 12 months fixed term with the possibility of extension by mutual agreement.
The on call frequency is currently 1 in 9, covering both General Surgery and Urology. There is a Surgical Admissions Unit available for acute admissions and three dedicated surgical wards. There are three higher tiers of on call (core trainee, higher trainee and consultant) and consultant services are provided by 12 Consultant Surgeons in General Surgery and five in Urology.
The post isnotapproved by the Postgraduate Deans Office in Sheffield and isnotrecognised for training by the Royal College of Surgeons. 6 months clinical experience post qualification is essential for this role.
