Full Job Description

We have an exciting opportunity to join the Surgical DivisionMedical Team at Airedale NHS Foundation Trust for a maximum of 12 months on a Fix Term Contract. We welcome applications from doctors following completion of your foundation or core training. This post is full time however less than full time (LTFT) applications will be considered but this will normally require a proportionate share of out of hours shifts unless stated otherwise.

We will have opportunities in the following specialities to commence in October 2024: General surgery & Urology and Trauma & Orthopaedics - the post holder will have some influence over the choice of speciality (or rotations between specialities) but will be required to cover all surgical specialities out of hours.

Our commitments to you would be:

  • ST/CT1 (MT03) pay with enhancements equivalent to doctors in training determined by the agreed rota; other terms and conditions will also mirror those for doctors in training

  • Doctors who have not completed UK foundation training and who do not have a completed CREST form may be offered an alternative pay scale until CREST sign-off has been achieved.

  • A dedicated supervisor and support from key stakeholders within the directorate.

  • An e-portfolio if required.

  • Training opportunities, including dedicated study leave and funding.

  • Support with achieving CREST competencies if required.

  • GMC connection to the Trust and Responsible Officer.

  • Annual appraisal and job planning.


  • Main duties of the job

    The post would involve ward management and high-quality care for General surgery & Urology and Trauma & Orthopaedics inpatients as well as theatre and outpatient experience. Ward work is supported by the on call Speciality Dr, Advanced Clinical Practitioners (ACPs) & FY2s . The post holder would also be involved in working with multidisciplinary teams (MDT)

    The post holder has clinical and professional responsibility for their patients. It is also the duty of the post holder to:
  • Keep patients (and/or their carers if appropriate) informed about their condition.

  • Involve patients (and/or their carers if appropriate) in decision making about their treatment.

  • Maintain professional standards and obligations as set out from time to time by the General Medical Council and comply in particular with the GMC's guidance on 'Good Medical Practice.'


  • The post holder will be responsible for carrying out any work related to and reasonably incidental to the duties set out in their Job Plan such as:
  • The keeping of records and the provision of report.

  • The proper delegation of task.

  • Maintaining skills and knowledge.
