Full Job Description

NUH is looking to appoint an enthusiastic and highly motivated Trust Grade doctor at ST3 level or above to support our neurosurgical department. This placement is for 12 months initially but may be extended.

This is an exciting opportunity to get excellent experience in neurosurgery. The post holder will be part of a team which include run through trainees as well as other trust grade doctors. You will work closely with consultants, other junior doctors and multi-disciplinary teams. The post holder will be part of an on call rota at QMC.

There are ample opportunities for work based assessments from the supervising consultants. You will also be allocated a Clinical Supervisor who will help identify career progression opportunities., The post holder will support various aspects of this busy service, with a commitment to the out of hours rota. The daytime role will include cover of the neurosurgical wards, clinics, pre-admissions and theatres. These duties are allocated on a weekly basis.

The post holder will contribute to an on-call rota and should therefore have previous neurosurgery registrar experience (or equivalent), have full MRCS and have experience working within the NHS.

The unit has strong research credentials and established link with Nottingham University for collaborative research, undergraduate and post graduate education.

The neuroscience department has 56 adult neurosurgical beds. Neurosurgical and spinal post-operative patients are looked after in a further 12 bedded NSPU ward, Neurosurgical Triage Unit deals with urgent pathways. The QMC Campus has 22 critical care beds and 20 high dependency beds. There are 3 dedicated fully equipped neurosurgical theatres along with access to emergency theatres and intraoperative MRI. The unit has established MDTs for Neuro-Oncology, skull base tumours, pituitary surgery, neuromodulation, functional neurosurgery, epilepsy surgery, CSF disorders, neurosurgical spine, neuro trauma and paediatric neurosurgery.
