Full Job Description

We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated doctor to work with us in the Care of the Elderly Medicine department at Newham University Hospital for a period of 12 months, commencing Dec 2024. The successful candidate will work in a friendly and dynamic department, fully supported by consultants and specialist registrars., The department manages medical patients located in the Emergency Department and the Clinical Decision Unit who are aged 75 and above, and those within our COE bed bases listed above.

The Care of the Elderly Consultants and all COE juniors are part of the General Medical on-call system. IMT/ GPVTS doctors contribute to a full shift pattern for day, night and weekend shifts for medicine. A copy of the rota is provided.

This role provides good experience in the management of elderly and frail patients with the opportunity to develop skills in comprehensive geriatric assessment, prescribing and de-prescribing, communication and MDT working. There are plentiful opportunities to participate in our departmental meetings, develop teaching skills and become involved in quality improvement across the department.

The Care of the Elderly Department at Newham University Hospital is part of the Division of Medicine. It provides acute Care of the Elderly and Stroke services. The department has 3 Care of The Elderly Wards including a 13 bedded acute stroke unit., Barts Health is one of the largest NHS trusts in the country, and one of Britain's leading healthcare providers.
