Full Job Description

The post holder will be expected to provide SHO grade cover on a rotational shift basis throughout general surgery. They will have to participate in the on-call SHO rota and will be expected to supervise the FY1s in service delivery, inpatients, and day services. The post holder will provide a rapid response to A&E to facilitate the 4 hour trolley-wait target and during the on call shift, will be available solely for emergency duties.,

  • Provide SHO cover on a rotational shift basis throughout general surgery.
  • Supervise the FY1s in service delivery, in outpatients, inpatients, and day services.
  • Provide a rapid response to A&E to facilitate the 4 hour trolley-wait target - during the on call shift will be available solely for emergency duties.
  • Undertake outpatient clinics and operating theatre lists as directed by the consultants.
  • Offer a commitment to both postgraduate and undergraduate General Surgery training within the hospital.
  • Work with the multidisciplinary team.
  • Take part in the care of patients attending the department, including examination, investigation, diagnosis and treatment.
  • Liaise with staff of other departments.
  • Maintain legible records.
  • Assist in the audit of various aspects of work under the direction of the Audit lead.
  • Recognize their own limitations and seek advice from the Consultants in their management of patients.
  • Perform related duties as required, including additional duties arising exceptionally from occasional emergencies and unforeseen circumstances, and duties essential for the continuity of patient care.
  • Other duties as directed by the Consultant in Charge.
  • IT skills are essential to support the electronic management of patient pathways.
  • Dept encourages all junior doctors to be involved in development of guidelines in partnership with other team members.
