Full Job Description
Our Tax team are now recruiting a Tax Manager to join our Trust and Estates team based in Leeds. The overall purpose of this role will be to review trust and estate self-assessment tax returns on a portfolio of clients and manage complex cases, whilst overseeing wider compliance work for trusts and estate client The key elements of this role will include but not be limited to:
- Responsibility for the review of trust self-assessment tax returns prepared by Trainees, Assistants and Seniors on our portfolio of trust clients, along with other related compliance matters such as IHT forms and maintenance of the Trust Register.
- Overseeing work in relation to estates, including review of IHT forms, self-assessment tax returns and informal reporting of tax liabilities.
- Having direct line management responsibilities for Tax Seniors / Tax Assistant Managers, providing coaching and development opportunities.
- Ensuring adequate contact availability for clients, Armstrong Watson staff and external organisations with self and team members as appropriate.
- Providing support, training and mentoring for Tax Assistants and Tax Seniors in relation to trust and estate work.
- Managing the workflow of the team providing an excellent client service experience whilst maximising efficiency and creating new business opportunities.
- Managing the time spent by the team on client's tax affairs and ensure work is completed in the most efficient manner.
- Provide relevant information to other internal specialists, so as to assist the cross selling of services into the client base.
- Forming good professional relationships with clients and intermediaries, creating an environment whereby they feel happy to refer their contacts. The Candidate In order to fulfil the responsibilities of the position, we would like candidates to be / have
- ATT Qualified as a minimum but ideally have completed or be in process of completing either a CTA or STEP qualification
- Excellent knowledge and expertise in order to be seen as a thought leader in their area to the external marketplace
- Experience in directly line managing staff, and be confident when delegating work
- Have an in depth understanding of the taxation of UK individuals, trusts and estates
- Have experience using tax return software (CCH is desirable but not essential)
- Have some advisory knowledge, and experience in identifying advisory opportunities
- Experienced dealing directly with clients and ensuring they receive an outstanding level of customer service
- Confident when communicating (in both written and verbal form) in order to deal directly with clients and colleagues within other service lines across the firm
