Full Job Description

Hours: Attendance at quarterly board meetings and ad hoc for the time commitment

At Groundwork North East & Cumbria we are passionate about creating a future where every neighbourhood is thriving, every community is strong and able to shape its own destiny and no-one is held back by their background or circumstances. We are also committed to play our part in meeting the COP 26 climate change ambitions, including making our operations carbon neutral by 2030.

We drive achievement of this through successful delivery of a diverse range over 200 projects across the North East and Cumbria supporting our people and our local communities to thrive.

Our new Trustees will be joining a talented Board, working alongside our Chief Executive, a strong senior leadership team, and our dedicated colleagues and volunteers. We are looking to broaden and diversify our Board's composition, filling skills gaps, and bringing new perspectives, ideas, and connections to our work. In order to help us to achieve this, we are recruiting several new board members.

As a Trustee you will bring intellectual versatility, energy and integrity to our skilled Board. You will contribute to the strategic direction of Groundwork NE & Cumbria and offer governance support to our executive team. You will bring sound reasoning attributes and the ability to think corporately and strategically.

You will be willing to engage fully not just in Board meetings but also in supporting the executive team with its longer term strategic plan. Ideally you will have excellent networks and/or expertise that can help drive the organisation and continue to build our reputation as the leading community regeneration charity in our region.

We are seeking a diverse set of skills - and lived experiences of the issues we address - in our new Trustees, and we are seeking individuals with an expertise including, but not limited to:

  • Safeguarding

  • Finance

  • IT and Social Media

  • People Strategy

  • Development and Funding

  • Legal

  • Knowledge of the world we live and work in

We want you to be yourself at Groundwork and we value everything that makes you unique. We recognise and celebrate your difference and together we make Groundwork a special and great place to work. As a Disability Confident employer we offer a guaranteed interview to applicants with a disability who meet the essential criteria for the role.

  • At Groundwork we ensure that we provide a safe environment for adults, children and young people to take part in any activity or service that we organise. We are committed to creating a culture that promotes safeguarding and the welfare of all children, young people and adults at risk. Our safer recruitment practices support this by ensuring that there is a consistent and comprehensive process of obtaining, collating, analysing and evaluating information from and about candidates to ensure that all the people we appoint are suitable to work with our children, young people and adults
