0-5 hours / month Approx. 4 hours per month. AGM, 4 quarterly board meetings held in Stroud, attendance of sub- committees min. 3 per year and regular meetings., Treasurer needed at GCS! Bring your financial skills to our board and help us shape the way we work and deliver our vision. We want to harness your experience and insight, to drive forward our mission.What will you be doing? We are committed to empowering people to make positive changes in their lives and believe that counselling is how this can happen. GCS has been providing professional counselling and mental health services for over 40 years, supporting individuals, families, and schools across the county. GCS is committed to offering affordable and accessible support to all, with a focus on improving mental health and wellbeing in local communities. We are particularly looking for individuals with expertise in finance, marketing, and legal skills to strengthen our board. However, we also welcome candidates with a wide range of professional backgrounds and lived experiences. GCS is especially keen to hear from those who have direct experience with mental health challenges or who are connected to the diverse communities served by the charity., Being a trustee is a fulfilling way to contribute to the wellbeing of your local community. As a trustee, you will: Help set the charity's strategic direction, ensuring it continues to deliver high-quality mental health services. Use your knowledge and expertise to provide oversight and governance, ensuring financial health and accountability. Join a network of trustees across Gloucestershire who support the vital work of the county's charities, each addressing different causes but all working towards the common goal of improving lives.   • EXPERIENCE
  • Prior experience as a treasurer or senior financial role within a charity or other organisation.
  • Experience in reviewing budgets, financial forecasting, and/or auditing
  • Proven track record of overseeing financial risk management and ensuring compliance with charity regulations.
  • Experience in supporting fundraising initiatives and financial planning in a charitable context would be desirable but not essential
  • KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles, financial reporting, and charity-specific financial practices, including the Charities Statement of Recommended Practice (SORP).
  • Expertise in preparing and managing budgets, analysing cash flow, and ensuring financial sustainability.
  • Familiarity with the financial challenges facing charities, including restricted and unrestricted funding.
  • Proficiency with financial software and tools used in the charity sector.
  • Awareness of the legal responsibilities of trustees and governance requirements within the charity sector
