Full Job Description

We are supported by a wide range of charitable trusts including Paul Hamlyn Foundation, Garfield Weston, Esmée Fairbairn Foundation and Comic Relief as well as other stakeholders such as Arts Council England.

You will manage your own portfolio of core funders and support the team in cultivating and stewarding high worth funder relationships to generate income for all of our programmes. You will research potential funders, ensuring they are receptive to an application to support our work, and write grant applications.

You will also have an opportunity to develop your fundraising skills, working closely with a broad range of colleagues to generate income from our projects across the UK. As you learn more about our work, you will become a skilled and confident communicator of our programmes, able to convey their impact to potential funders in discussions and writing.

Our statutory income has grown in recent years and support for this work will also be an essential part of your role. Guided by the Fundraising Manager, Trusts and Statutory, you will coordinate the tendering process and ensure teams across the organisation know about relevant upcoming tenders and all application requirements.

You will be contracted to our office in London but able to work flexibly from home for the majority of your working week, if you prefer, under our home working policy.

You will be a skilled researcher, communicator and writer with at least a year's experience of fundraising, including building relationships and working collaboratively. You will also need excellent written and spoken communications, including attention to detail and ability to write a compelling case for support. Experience of fundraising for community development, education or health would be an advantage.

It gives you the tools to get the most out of life, and the power to shape your future. It's the key to knowledge, confidence and inspiration. It's better results at school, and better jobs. If children grow up without the tools to communicate, without books to read or opportunities to write, it's harder to get where you want to go.

The National Literacy Trust is an independent charity helping people overcome these challenges and change their life chances through the power of words - reading, writing, speaking and listening. From first words, through school days to training, jobs and beyond.

  • We work collaboratively in local communities, focusing our work in 20 areas of the UK that are facing the biggest challenges.

  • We support schools, developing the most effective tools and techniques and providing resources and programmes to engage and inspire children.

  • We campaign to make literacy a priority for politicians and decision-makers.

  • We support vulnerable adults, people in the criminal justice system and young offenders' institutions to build their literacy skills

As well as a competitive salary, we offer benefits including a generous leave allowance totalling 39 days (including bank holidays and office closure between Christmas and New Year), pension contributions of 8% of annual salary, a cycle to work scheme, employee assistance programme and other health and wellbeing benefits.
