Full Job Description

§ To provide high quality teaching, learning and assessment as expected by Ofsted
§ To implement Safeguarding and Prevent requirements
§ To provide relevant information, advice, guidance and support to learners
§ To maintain current, accurate and complete records of learner data

1.1 Supervisory responsibilities
None other than learners within the learning environment

Reporting to the Curriculum Team Leader / Manager

2 Principal Accountabilities

2.1 To undertake teaching duties, including initial assessment of learners, identifying individual learning needs agreeing and completing individual learning plans with learners. To ensure that the progress and achievement of learners is recognised and recorded. To provide progression, retention and achievement information to Curriculum Team Leader / Manager.

2.2 To appropriately plan for teaching, learning and assessment. This includes preparing course outlines and producing schemes of work and lesson plans; ensuring there are appropriate and up-to-date course files; identify materials and equipment resource needed to assist the provision of teaching and learning; and production of appropriate flexible learning materials. It also includes undertaking course reviews.

2.3 To ensure there is a complete, accurate and up-to-date class register(s).To be responsible for withdrawing and transferring learners in liaison with Curriculum Team Leader / Manager. To maintain high levels of retention, achievement and to support learners' progression. To monitor learners' attendance and punctuality and take appropriate action as required.

2.4 To undertake in consultation with the Curriculum Team Leader / Manager and other appropriate service staff any work required for the accreditation of courses and for the effective organisation of examinations and assessments. To undertake the assessment and recording of learner outcomes including completion of exam entry forms.

2.5 To comply with Equality and safeguarding requirements, including all Health & Safety regulations and, in particular, be familiar with the procedure to be adopted in case of fire and risk assessment in the learning environment.

2.6 To show due regard for Protected Characteristics in all teaching, learning and assessment activities.

2.7 To ensure the security of both virtual and physical classrooms and any equipment borrowed or used within the classroom.

2.8 To attend and contribute to course team meetings.

2.9 To undertake appropriate training identified through the line management process.

2.10 To participate in the Service's self-assessment and development planning processes.

2.11 To comply with any reasonable request in relation to the teaching programme made by the Service.

The post holder will be required to undertake such duties as may reasonably be expected. All members of staff are expected to be professional, co-operative and flexible within the needs of the post, the department and the Service.

Job Descriptions should be reviewed and updated during the line management meeting to ensure that they are an accurate representation of the post.

1. Experience of teaching adults in the FE and/or adult and community learning sectors with proven success. (E) (S, I)
2. Experience of planning, delivering, assessing and evaluating teaching and learning, including devising schemes of work, lesson plans, individual learning plans, registration and enrolment, entering learners for exams. (E) (S, I)
3. Experience of devising curriculum, learning materials and systems for the management of learning. (E) (S, I)
4. For applicants to qualification based and accredited courses Experience of marking, assessing, tutorials and standardisation (experience of internal verification, EQA planning and moderation would be desirable). (E) (S, I)
5. Family learning applicants: Experience of teaching adults and children together, with appropriate learning goals and outcomes for both age groups (E). (S, I)
6. Professional experience in the subject(s) taught. (D) (S)

QUALIFICATIONS
7. A teaching qualification (NB Southwark Adult Learning expects its teaching staff to be qualified to teach adults. We require tutors to be qualified to City and Guilds stage 1 or PTTLS, or equivalent. If you do not have the appropriate qualification, you must be willing to obtain it within the first year of service). (E) (S)
