Full Job Description

The Underoccupancy & Resettlement Officer primary function is to provide comprehensive advice and support to tenants who are under-occupying their home and wish to downsize into an alternative property. The post holder will also manage mutual exchanges on behalf of the Council, including advising tenants throughout the process, and determining eligibility.

The post holder will work in a customer centred, multi-disciplinary frontline team delivering high quality advice and guidance to applicants in helping them make choices on homes and be responsible for the monitoring and managing of their own case load of application for downsizing and mutual exchanges, in line with performance targets, prioritising workloads to deliver stretching targets and deadlines.

Your skills will include up to date knowledge of the housing legislation of the Housing Act 1996, (as amended), Localism Act 2011 and Landlord and Tenant Law, time management with excellent negotiation and communication skills. In return we offer you an opportunity to be part of a team aiming to achieve excellence along with a benefit package that includes a final salary pension scheme and flexible working.

The borough of Basildon is alive with opportunity and has the ingredients to be one of the most successful and desirable places in the Southeast. As the largest economy in the Thames Estuary outside London, we are incredibly proud of what we have achieved but we are never complacent. We are driving inclusive, sustainable growth to provide opportunity and prosperity for local people and businesses, access to quality homes, vibrant town centres and an enhanced local environment.

An opportunity has arisen for a hard-working individual to work within the Tenancy & Resettlement Team. This team is part of the Housing Needs Department (the strategic housing service) and sits within the Rehousing Team.
