University Intern - EHS

At Pirbright, the EHS team work with colleagues across the site and occasionally the UK and Ireland region to advise and support them to work safe, stay healthy and look after the environment from the activities they are conducting, whilst ensuring compliance with UK legislation and Corporate requirements. Every day is different for the team and there will be opportunities to learn new skill sets to support different aspects of environment, health and safety management which include the softer personnel skills required to influence and roll out the management systems. The core responsibilities of this position will be:

• Support the EHS team with the environment management programmes including waste management and trade effluent
• Support the Site's Be Green team to implement and educate colleagues regarding green behaviour initiatives
• Support the Site's sustainability initiatives such as zero waste to landfill and water stewardship
• Support the EHS team to conduct EHS inspections and topic specific audits in departments across site, Gain knowledge and familiarity of EHS matters in the pharmaceutical industry by working in an experienced cross functional team
• Be able to influence and support implementation of new initiatives in relation to Green behaviours and sustainability
• Enhance understanding of EHS legislation and how corporate organisations translate that into practice
• Enhance personal skill set in both subject matter and soft skills such as influencing techniques, active listening and questioning techniques.
  
  Applicants will be studying for a BSc in Environmental Sciences, BSc in Environment and Sustainability, BSc in Safety, Health and Environment Management or BSc in Occupational Safety and Health Management or a similar degree.

• Technical requirements:
o Awareness of UK legislation relating to Environment or Health and Safety o Attention to detail and inquisitive nature to gather facts to support the work activities o Understanding of sustainability initiatives currently being implemented within the UK would be desirable o Awareness and practice of risk assessment processes would be desirable o Awareness of chemical safety and /or impact of chemicals in the environment would be desirable
