The post holder has a key leadership and specialist role at a senior level to support the organisation in the delivery of care for cancer patients and their families. This will be in accordance with the philosophy and standards of care within the specialty, ensuring that Trust values and beliefs are upheld. In addition, the Specialist Nurse has a fundamental role in leading on the development and the effective delivery of specialist cancer nursing to reflect the evolving health care agenda., Lead and take responsibility in the safe and efficient delivery of care for Stockport Upper GI Cancer Patients. Actively engage with the local and specialist MDT's - present patients where appropriate, participate in discussion and ensure patient advocacy. Request diagnostics according to protocol and ensure any findings are acted on or disseminated appropriately. Request specialist interventional radiological and investigations maintaining annual Ionising Radiation (Medical Exposure) Regulations (IRMER) - training updates. Assess patients and provide specialist information to be able to request online PET imaging at the Christie Hospital. Exercising clinical expertise and act as the point of contact and take responsibility for bringing outcomes to the MDT. Exercise clinical expertise and access all network PACs systems and work collaboratively with other off site specialist Consultants at other Trusts, to ensure smooth transitions of care provision. Responsible for the up to date maintenance of the specialist nurse databases, e.g. Somerset Cancer Registry, Annual Activity and Outcomes, User Feedback. Work collaboratively in the development of a Stockport Upper Team Internet site. Participate in clinics off site (eg Beechwood) as required Involvement with the trust faster diagnostic pathway which will include triaging new referrals and stepping patients of the pathway as appropriate, · In conjunction with the Head of Nursing and Macmillan Lead Cancer Nurse, will deliver the modernisation agenda within their clinical setting, including effective leadership, monitoring and maintaining professional and care standards, work collaboratively, manage complaints as per Trust policy and lead the specialist nursing contribution to the governance agenda · Identify, support and provide leadership for new service developments and improvements for Upper GI Cancer patients · Lead by example and act as a positive role model for all staff, taking responsibility for own professional development · Provide leadership that promotes patient focused care · Lead on the development and delivery of cancer education and training for patients and staff, relevant to specialist nursing practice. · Provide clinical leadership and line management of staff if appropriate, ensuring the delivery of the highest professional standards through staff development and individual performance appraisal/review. · Maintain personal standards of conduct and behaviour, which are consistent with Trust and Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) standards and requirements · Actively contribute to, and support agreed developments within the Business Group, relevant to specialty · Act as key worker within agreed tumour specific protocols, leading on patient and carer communication issues and co-ordinate the patient pathway · Provide expert nursing advice and support to other Health Care Professionals (HCP) The Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment and promote safeguarding by implementing the Trust's policies and procedures, acting promptly on concerns, communicating effectively and sharing information appropriately. If successful this vacancy will require an enhanced DBS check at a cost of £41.90. This cost will be deducted from your first Trust salary In addition to this it will be a condition of your employment that you will join the DBS update service and pay the annual subscription fee of £13.
