Full Job Description

  • The post provides a Clinical Specialist Nurse Service for patients with a urology cancer (Bladder, Renal, Prostate, Testis or Penile). The post holder will provide expert care, advice and support to both patients and their families undergoing treatment or surveillance on an in-patient, out-patient and community basis and will act as a resource for other staff
  • The main emphasis of this role is to support and advise new patients and their families and carers at the time of diagnosis, and beyond and to develop follow up services for patients with a urology cancer including nurse-led clinics.
  • To comply with clinical governance guidelines the post holder will identify gaps in current service provision and streamline patients' pathways through a structured programme of consultation with Consultants and other members of the multidisciplinary team including relevant user groups.
  • Ensure effective collaborative working alongside members of the Multidisciplinary team including Oncology and Palliative care teams
  • Be aware and up to date with current methods of treatment and current research, new clinical practices, procedures and facilitate care at a clinical level
  • To provide education, advice and support for the health care team, to facilitate continuity of care throughout the patients' journey.

  • We are looking for an experienced nurse who has knowledge and experience in Urology/Uro-oncology nursing. As an Uro-oncology Clinical Nurse Specialist, you will deliver a high quality specialist nursing service to our patients with suspected urology cancer or confirmed cancer diagnosis. Which includes prostate, bladder, kidney, testicular and penile cancer. The successful candidate must have the passion and drive to provide patient centred care, including supporting patients and families with bad news, providing information on treatment options, to be able to advocate for the patient and family, and support symptoms associated with cancer and its treatment. The Clinical Nurse Specialist will also undertake Nurse-led clinics to support patients in surveillance. This is a challenging and demanding role that requires a proactive, self-motivated and dedicated person, who is capable of understanding complex care pathways, across multiple agencies and services to ensure the highest quality of care and service delivery for our patients. You will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, be able to manage your own work load and have problem solving skills. You will be an excellent team player but equally be able to work in a self-directed manner. The post holder will work within the multi-professional team and the successful candidate will be expected to drive forward quality initiatives that enhances care delivery and the patient experience for urology cancer patients.
