Full Job Description

An opportunity has arisen for a Utility Aborist Surveyor to join us and be part of the arborist teams based in Blackburn. This role comes with excellent benefits and a salary of £32,540.35 up to £34,832.91 dependent on experience.

Electricity North West's tree cutting team help thousands of residents across the North West escape sudden power cuts.

We have an annual tree cutting programme with the aim of vastly reducing and preventing power cuts, while proactively maintaining our overhead network.

As a Surveyor you work independently, liaising with landowners to conduct UA5 surveys on ENWL's extensive overhead network. You will manage your own workload, completing all aspects of the survey to effectively maintain trees adjacent to overhead power lines. Principal accountabilities of your role are:

  • Liaise and negotiate with third parties to obtain maximum tree clearances;

  • Liaise with customers to generate maximum tree clearance programmes;

  • Focus on delivering high levels of customer service when liaising with customers;

  • Provide tree cutting work packs that are in line with operational standards;

  • Initiate site specific risk assessments and build safe working practices into the work packs.


  • Working to British Standards you will prune trees so they retain their natural shape. With falling branches being the biggest single cause of unplanned power cuts in the region joining one of our teams will not only give you the opportunity to shape the vegetation around overhead power lines but also the electricity supply of those who live in the North West.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build successful working relationships with both customers and clients;

  • RFS in arboriculture or equivalent;

  • An NPTC UA1 + UA5

  • Basic chainsaw use (desirable);

  • Aerial rescue (desirable);

  • Windblown / medium trees (desirable);

  • Driving license (essential) preferably with B+E (trailer towing);

  • LANTRA / NPTC chipper certificate (desirable);

  • Backpack spraying NPTC (desirable);

  • Proven team working skills with the ability to supervise less experienced colleagues;

  • Excellent organisational skills combined with the ability to work under own initiative;

  • A result focused approach with the ability to achieve deadlines.

  • Ability to use Laptop, word documents, excel spreadsheets


  • This role is based from our depot in Blackburn, as the successful candidate you may expect to work across the Lancashire area.
