Full Job Description

This is an exciting opportunity to work in a dynamic environment within Water Operations and directly support the Thames Water's operational turnaround plan priorities. Operational Hydraulic modelling is at the core of our strategy of enabling various regulatory requirements and delivering the best customer service, with a defined career path and support towards becoming a technical expert within the water business.

As part of the Strategic Business Planning and Programmes team within Water Operations, you will play a critical role in ensuring top water quality and reduced leakage, while enabling the most optimum and energy efficient supply of water to our customers.

What you'll be doing as a Hydraulic Modelling Specialist

+ Acting as the expert in Operational Hydraulic Modelling for the business, and advising other functions within the business, including Asset Management, Capital Delivery, Clean Water Production, where necessary.
+ Acting as a key point of contact, collaborating with colleagues, and engaging with stakeholders to further our objectives. You will influence and inform colleagues and senior leadership on operational and investment decisions, including future strategic capital projects as well as Smart water tools.
+ Leading the Water Quality related operational modelling, at various reservoir sites within TW, to ensure the most optimum strategy to transfer water across the hydraulic system is devised while maintaining good reservoir turnovers and mitigating any impact on Customer, Leakage and Energy.
+ Assisting with building & maintenance of Hydraulic network models, along with management of any related operational led flow and pressure surveys.
+ Pursuing a proactive review of priority model calibration anomalies, assisted by the wider technical teams and field resource - to enable further interrogation, calibration and verification of existing hydraulic models.
+ Devising optimum system reconfiguration schemes, to assist Operations led targets on Leakage as part of Calm Systems workstream.
+ Carrying out supply/demand mass balance assessments to identify key in-year/AMP operational resilience risks and any devising any short-term operational mitigation until the longer term investment takes place.
+ Leading a strategic initiative to review any high risk and low-flow hydrants in the network, to devise operational solutions to ensure the fire flows are improved.
+ Devising water supply solutions to remove Low Pressure and Supply Interruptions risks within the year, in addition to solutions for emergency Operational Incidents, where appropriate.

+ Demonstratable experience in the use of hydraulic models, preferably with previous experience in the use of network modelling software like Infowater and Infoworks. Thames Water teams are currently in the process of transitioning to using Infoworks.
+ Be a strong communicator who can engage and collaborate with colleagues to understand their challenges and needs, and support/present modelling led business cases with senior stakeholders.
+ Have excellent IT skills, strong numeric and data analytical skills to generate accurate and detailed plans.
+ Have excellent co-ordination skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks at one time.
+ Comprehensive and strong ability to review and interpret complex data, draw conclusions, making recommendations and informed decisions on range of projects on strategic programmes.
+ Ability to travel across our operational area, when required, for onsite investigations or office meetings.
