Full Job Description

General Dynamics Land Systems is on the look-out for a full-time Vehicle Mechanics (VM) to join our established team. The successful and inclusive candidate will earn a favourable salary of £34,400 to £43,000 based on experience and potential. This is an ideal role for someone who has a proactive and positive mindset and a keen desire to grow professionally. Joining an established team based at our Merthyr ( South Wales ) facility, you will work across a range of stakeholders to conduct up to Level 4 Maintenance on Armoured Platforms, Sub-Systems and Training Systems and will be based at the GDLS-UK Facility in Merthyr Tydfil. Whilst contracted to a 37.5hrs working week, there are opportunities to work some extended paid hours and weekends if the programme requires it. There may also be requirements to work in other UK locations for specific tasks.. If you were already working in this position, this is what you would have been working on this week:

  • Technical focal point for all vehicle related matters including modifications, Post Design Services (PDS), technical training and defect reporting.
  • Assess battle damage, warranty faults and recommend rectification procedures.
  • Provision of training to new team members and oversee/advise/mentor.
  • Work with design/project engineers to develop optimised engineered solutions. Provide feedback on technical issues and support System and Software Engineers in designing technical resolution.
  • Carrying out all levels of repairs on AJAX Variants, Sub-Systems & Training Systems (up to Level 4) and also upgrades / modifications, as per Design changes.
  • Perform business support administration (timesheets, procurement of equipment, stocktaking, collect and report data) using provided IT

    Demonstrable knowledge of automotive systems and how they work together. Diesel Engines, Transmissions, Hydraulics & Electrics
  • Highly customer focused with good communication skills.
  • IT literate with working knowledge of MS Office and automotive diagnostic systems
