Full Job Description

The peer role is three-fold.
1. To empower and support veterans accessing Op COURAGE to engage with the support offered, including explaining how NHS care is provided and using a care and support plan.
2. To help veterans who might be socially isolated to identify personal strengths, and to connect in with the veteran community and/or other supportive services which help them feel engaged and independent.
3. To contribute to the ongoing co-production, design and delivery of peer support for services users, including our active service user group and veterans' drop-in.

Op COURAGE delivers multidisciplinary care to ex-military personnel who have served in the British Armed Forces. This includes a range of mental health and social interventions. These include trauma focused therapies, support with substance misuse, physical health, employment, accommodation, relationships and finances.
Peer workers are people who have lived experienced of serving in the British Armed Forces and are seen as experts by experience. They may also have lived experience of accessing NHS and third sector services for support for issues connected to their military service.
The successful applicant will focus on the day-to-day holistic support needs of veterans by planning, promoting and delivering delegated activities to meet goals identified in the individual's care and support plan. These will be around reducing social isolation, engaging with meaningful activities and facilitating engagement with community services where this may be difficult. Self-managed care is essential to this: the supported person is encouraged to assess their own needs and to develop and implement a self-management plan. Peer Support is delivered through promoting empowerment and choice and giving the opportunity for the exploration of meaning and purpose.
This role is only for British Armed Forces veterans.
