Full Job Description
- Sample reception: open and receive samples, accurately record details on submission form, sort samples into appropriate sections and enter details onto LIMS system.
- Handle and prepare diagnostic samples for testing, including preparation and staining of cytology slides and blood films and scanning cytology and histology slides.
- Preparing samples for shipment to external laboratories
- Stock control: Maintaining stock levels, placing orders, receiving laboratory deliveries and stock rotation of new supplies.
- Maintain a tidy and clean working environment including disposal of laboratory waste.
- Comply with laboratory health and safety procedures.
This opportunity would be well suited to you if you have previous experience as a Veterinary Lab Assistant (VLA), a Medical Lab Assistant (MLA) or experience working within specimen reception., A Level qualification or above within a science field (preferably biology). - Proven laboratory experience ideally within a veterinary or clinical setting.
- Attention to detail and excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Organised with the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Basic math, interpretive and analytical skills.
- Personal computer skills, strong typing ability, and proficient in Microsoft Office.
- Strong data processing skills.

We are offering a 6-month fixed term contract, with the potential to go permanent at the end of the contract. It's a full-time position (40-hour week) working 8-hour shifts between the hours of 06:00 and 18:00, Tuesday to Saturday.,
