Full Job Description

The prime responsibility of the Vice Principal is to work with the Principal and the other members of the Senior Leadership Team to ensure that the community of St Brendan's Sixth Form College succeeds and develops in its mission, achieves its strategic aims and objectives, and fulfils its responsibilities. To that end, your key responsibilities are to:

  • Ensure the college is consistently delivering ambitious and high-quality lessons that motivate and inspire all our students to fulfil their potential;
  • Provide excellent leadership to staff, setting high expectations and standards of behaviour, leading by example as an outstanding role model;
  • Provide strategic direction for curriculum, ensuring it aligns with our vision and meets the needs of students and employers;
  • Champion high-quality standards of curriculum delivery, ensuring teaching, learning, assessment, and the student experience are exceptional;
  • Monitor and evaluate key performance indicators to meet and exceed recruitment, retention, achievement, and participation targets.

    We are looking for an exceptional individual who is passionate and committed to improve student outcomes at every level, a colleague for whom excellence is the normal standard and who has creative and innovative strategies that inspire and influence individuals and teams to further improve our student outcomes and experience., An accomplished strategic leader with experience working at a senior level ideally in Further Education;
  • Able to provide examples of having set the direction of and having directly implemented whole college level strategies to raise academic standards;
  • Re ready to step up to manage the College and to deputise for the Principal as required;
  • An outstanding communicator, both verbally and in writing, able to present complex data and scenarios in a way that is understandable to a wide range of audiences;
  • Able to build strong relationships, to collaborate with and engage all staff across the college and influence at a senior level;
  • Able to work with complex data sets with the ability to analyse, evaluate and synthesise data to inform lines of enquiry and bring about quality improvement across all areas of provision;
  • Adept at motivating staff to improve standards across their curriculum area with an ability to hold staff to account through effective coaching, measurement and monitoring.
  • Above all you will be a visibly supportive member of the Leadership Team and will share the vision of an innovative, high-performing and emotionally intelligent organisation that sets our young people up for success. Whilst being a Practicing Catholic is desirable it is not essential, what is essential is that you are highly supportive of our Catholic ethos.

    We are a happy and thriving Catholic Sixth Form College that welcomes colleagues and students into our community from a diverse range of backgrounds - we are proudly catholic, fiercely inclusive. As you may already know, we are one of only two Sixth Form Colleges in the Southwest. We are also unique in the sense that we are the only Catholic Sixth Form College in the Southwest. Currently, we have over 2,000 students enrolled at the college. Students are at the heart of all that we do, and they are a wonderful diverse and intelligent group of young people. We are extremely proud of all our students' achievements, especially the individual progress that they each make in their time with us. We know that with the right support and encouragement every student will thrive and flourish, achieving far beyond what they, their family and sometimes society say is possible.
