About Us:

Visit people at risk of homelessness, to make sure they get the right help.

At the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, we put local people at the heart of everything we do. Everyone in our Housing Solutions service is passionate about making sure everyone, regardless of their background or circumstances, has a safe and secure place to call home. The work is as deeply fulfilling as it is challenging. Join this forward-thinking team and you will have access to a career path with impressive scope and opportunity. Most importantly, you will make a real difference to the life outcomes of some of our community's most vulnerable individuals.

The Role:

As Visiting Officer you will have exciting opportunities to play an active part in changing lives by preventing homelessness. The role involves hybrid working in the community. When people enquire or are referred to us for help with the risk of homelessness, we need to be more than a voice on the phone. So you will visit people where they live, to understand their circumstances, advise them on their application for support and, if you have doubts, watch for signs of fraud.

The people you visit may already be in temporary accommodation, or they may be tenants of council, housing association or privately rented homes. We will look to you to gather the information that helps us identify their needs and shape our services. Crucially, this will include instigating dynamic risk assessments of homes, and making sure any challenges to safety are resolved. You will be responsible for planning your own diary of visits and organising your route - we will, of course, cover your expenses as you travel throughout the borough on public transport.

About You:

To join us, you will need knowledge of the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017 and the kind of housing solutions available. Demonstrable experience of supporting residents to sustain their tenancy is essential. You will bring to the role a keen eye for detail and a flair for organisation, which will serve you well when prioritising your workload and keeping timely, detailed records on our systems. Crucially, you will also combine excellent communication skills with natural curiosity, which will be an advantage when providing advice to the public and coordinating with colleagues.

In return, you can look forward to a package that includes a competitive salary, a high-quality pension scheme, and generous annual leave plus bank holidays.

Please apply online explaining how you will meet the requirements set out in the person specification and job description. CVs will not be considered for this role.

We are committed to promoting equality and respecting diversity and welcome applications from all sections of the community.
