Full Job Description
The Ophthalmology Department at Leicester Royal Infirmary is looking to recruit a visual field technician to joinour team. Visual field technicians play a vital role in the ophthalmology clinics such as glaucoma clinics. They are responsible for meeting and greeting patients and putting them at ease before assessing their visual fields using computerised instruments. Previous work with the public, preferably in the NHS, would be beneficial. All necessary training will be given. The post will include evenings and weekend shifts. You will be required to travel offsite to the EMPCC (East Midlands Primary Care Centre and other sites in the community., The visual field technicians work closely with all staff groups in the Ophthalmology Department. Evidence of a good basic education and IT experience is essential. The post holder will be required to develop effective working relationships with all members of the ophthalmology team and external companies who provide and service equipment. Among the more important will be:
- Consultants and all medical staff
- Orthoptists
- Optometrists
- Ophthalmic imagers/Photographers
- Ophthalmic Technicians
- Nurses
- Administrative staff
- Management
- Suppliers Main duties will include:
- To undertake the assessment of visual fields using automated equipment in a range of patients.
- To use the automated focimeter to measure spectacle prescriptions.
