Full Job Description

The Museum of Croydon is looking for someone to join their small team as a Volunteer Co-ordinator and Visitor Experience Officer at an exciting time to join the Museum and Croydon Council: following an extremely successful year as the London Borough of Culture for 2023, Croydon Council is continuing to invest in its vibrant arts, heritage and cultural scene with an incredible programme of events. Approaching its 30th anniversary and having recently been awarded full Museum Accreditation, the Museum of Croydon is currently building an ambitious plan to increase its reach and engagement with residents and visitors. The Volunteer Co-ordinator and Visitor Experience Officer will be a crucial member of the staff team.

They will be responsible for developing a programme recruiting, developing, retaining and celebrating volunteers working across the Museum and Archive. Our volunteers are vital to running the Museum of Croydon and they could be stewarding the Museum galleries, helping to deliver children's activities, or completing collections care tasks; for us to increase footfall to the Museum we will be seeking to recruit more volunteers from a wide variety of backgrounds in the future.

The post will also lead on promoting the Museum, by managing social media platforms and updating our website.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, experienced professional with a background in managing volunteers, preferably in a heritage/museum setting. The successful candidate must demonstrate a collaborative nature and a willingness to work across council departments and with external organisations to build relationships and networks. The contract is initially for 12 months, with the possibility of extension.
