Full Job Description

  • Coordinating volunteer opportunities around the BFI's Special Collections: an internationally recognised collection of filmmakers' paper archives, scripts, photographs, posters and designs.

  • Work with colleagues to develop a volunteer needs assessment, with a specific focus on the Audit to Access project, to ensure we offer volunteering opportunities to those who will get the most out of them

  • Research local community needs and connections, recommending a network of potential partners and seeking out new relationships with educational and community groups

  • Support the development of a robust and inclusive volunteer recruitment process, which attracts a diversity of volunteers to the BFI National Archive


  • We are looking for candidates who have:

  • Knowledge of contemporary practice in volunteer coordination

  • Prior experience of supporting the development of volunteering programmes

  • An interest in the work of Galleries, Libraries, Archives or Museums (GLAMs)

  • An interest in building relationships with a range of partners and community groups

    Salary: £31,236 - £33,135 annum, pro rata


  • The BFI is looking for a Volunteer & Outreach Coordinator to join their Special Collections team, helping to develop and co-ordinate a new volunteer programme to support activity across the BFI National Archive.

    The post holder will also be expected to feed into the development of the BFI's new and evolving organisation-wide volunteer policy and programme. The role, and the volunteer programme, will be attached to the National Lottery Heritage Funded 'Audit to Access' project.

    Fixed Term Contract: until 31 October 2025
    Hours: Part-time, 2.5 days/20.5 hours per week (including 1 hour lunch break), We are a cultural charity, a National Lottery distributor, and the UK's lead organisation for film and the moving image.
