Full Job Description

The Belong Community Project runs Open Access Youth work sessions at the Malthouse Youth Centre in Meadowbank in Dorking, and is looking for Volunteer Youth Workers to help at the sessions which are attended by around 30 young people per session.

The sessions run from 3.30 to 5.30 on Tuesday, Wednesdays and Friday evenings where you would be helping, supported by the Lead Youth Worker. There would also be opportunities to volunteer at the school holiday activity sessions that Belong runs.

Whilst we would of course like to hear from those with experience within youth work or mentoring young people, Volunteer Youth Workers do not need to have formal youth work qualifications, as will be supported by the Lead Youth Worker. However a caring and friendly manner to be able to interact and support the young people is essential.

The group can be lively, and sometimes like to let off steam, so being calm and confident is important! Whilst you will have the support of the Lead Youth Worker and Belong Team, you will need to be able to work on your own initiative and there will be opportunities to undertake some training. Full DBS and an application process (via St John's C of E primary school in Dorking) will be undertaken prior to volunteering. Not suitable for D of E
