Full Job Description
This is a great volunteering role supporting patients with memory problems or dementia and their carers. We are looking for friendly, and enthusiastic people who enjoy walking, the outdoors, have an interest in memory and/or dementia and want to help others. If you want to gain experience, improve your job prospects, or just want to give some of your time to help others, this volunteering role could be for you! PLEASE NOTE: This role is not based in a hospital and will be at Queens park in Heywood or Hollingworth Lake in Littleborough. These are not easy locations to reach by public transport. Please look at the locations before you apply and get in touch if you have questions about making the journey., The role is intended to enhance the experience of those people using our memory service by supporting and encouraging our service users and carers to take part in a walking group. What the role involves: + To help run the walking group for people with memory problems or diagnosed with dementia and their carers. + To meet and greet clients as they arrive and put them at ease. + To build trusting relationships with identified clients and to introduce them to other members of the group. + To encourage people to participate and help them to feel good about themselves. + To encourage social interaction and reminisce + To direct clients along the designated route + To ensure that clients are walking at a pace they can manage. + Help with ordering tea and coffee in the café (if available) for those who need assistance. DBS Level for this role is: Standard The knowledge, skills and attributes required for the role: + Good verbal communication skills + Reliability & Good time keeping + Ability to effectively engage with those using the service + An enjoyment of the outdoors What we hope you gain from the role + Our thanks and appreciation + New skills and knowledge + Satisfaction from helping others Please note: To meet our Trust's safeguarding obligations applicants for this volunteer role must be aged 18 or over.
