Full Job Description

We are looking for a highly motivated Registered Band 5 Nurse to join a supportive team on the Acute Stroke Unit.The Acute Stroke Unit is based at Royal Blackburn Hospital and has support of the dedicated stroke rehabilitation unit at Pendle Community Hospital. The successful candidate can be given the opportunity to rotate between the 2 units. Opportunity will also be given to attend our bespoke stroke study days as well as spending time shadowing the stroke specialist nurses and consultant nurses who work in our Emergency Department. Opportunity may also be available to partake in the stroke module held at Uclan.

All patients admitted as a suspected stroke are seen in ED by the stroke team and admitted directly to the Acute Stroke Unit. The successful candidate will be offered support and guidance on managing complex stroke medication therapies such as thrombolysis care, Labetalol and GTN infusions and telemetry monitoring., To provide and promote the highest possible standard of care based on professionally determined standards and accept accountability for the patient as an exceptionally motivated individual with a passion and commitment for managing our Older People with respect and dignity. An exciting opportunity to participate as a successful and dynamic Practitioner, demonstrating effective team work through excellent communications skills and the ability to work as part of a multi disciplinary team with a flexible approach, a team player with the ability to respond to the demands of a rapidly changing clinical environment whilst demonstrating ELHT values and behaviours.

The Medicine for Older People directorate's primary focus is to provide care for our older population who may have multiple co morbidities and require complex care. We provide a comprehensive service including Stroke, Frailty, Dementia and specialist care of older persons.

The team consists of a dedicated and passionate multidisciplinary team who are committed to making our Frailty Pathway a reference point of excellence in the Northwest and indeed in the country. Working in a progressive environment such as this will enable you expand your knowledge and skills to support your ongoing career development.

We are proud of our stroke services and our achievement of obtaining 'A' within the Stroke Sentinel National Audit Programme (SSNAP) and we continue to develop and strengthen our stroke pathway to ensure patients receive a high standard of care in the right environment.
