Full Job Description

The Respiratory Support Unit at the Newcastle Upon Tyne Hospital Trust is looking to recruit a part time Ward Clerk to work predominantly Thursday and Friday each week. The Respiratory Support Unit provides acute respiratory care to a range of patients including respiratory and general medicine. A Ward Clerk is often the first person both visitors and patients can encounter therefore we are looking for organised, efficient and progressive individuals who have previous customer care / receptionist experience and are able to demonstrate good communication and interpersonal skills. The successful post holder will provide and maintain an efficient and effective administration service to the ward team and contribute to the delivery of a consistently high standard of patient care as part of the multidisciplinary team.

  • Will need to demonstrate excellent communication skill to facilitate seamless patient flow by liaising with other wards and departments within the Trust; also external bodies such as Ambulance Service and other care providers.
  • Will carry out delegated, repetitive, routine and familiar tasks.
  • Will plan and prioritise own and delegated work tasks and activities.
  • Post holder will be expected to contribute to housekeeping and other ward / department duties as required, e.g. general tidiness, re-determined stock levels are met and clinical equipment is clean, working and stored correctly.
  • May be required to provide training to Ward staff about own role.
  • To deal with telephone enquiries from a range of patients, staff, wards and departments ensuring messages are accurately relayed where appropriate.
