Full Job Description
To work as a team member within the work environment carrying out assigned tasks involving the indirect care of the patients, to ensure effective management of the department on a day to day basis.
- To provide a comprehensive administrative service to the Maternity Triage Team and ward areas.
- Support and assist in the effective management of the service on a day to day basis Clinical
- Ensure privacy and dignity of patients is maintained at all times.
- Minimise risk of harm to patients, staff and visitors by working according to risk management policies.
- Participate in the orientation of new staff to their duties and the ward routine.
- Assist in measurement of care by contributing to data collection for quality metrics.
- Work to eliminate avoidable infection by working according to infection control policies.
- Demonstrate consistent high standard of hand hygiene practice and promote standards to staff, visitors and patients. Maintain accuracy and legibility of patient records in accordance with trust policy.
- Input and update data on the computer system.
- Maintain accurate case note tracking.
- To file all patient information accurately in health records.
- Answer the telephone in a courteous and timely manner.
- Ensure accuracy in taking and relaying messages
- Booking patient transport.
- Arrange outpatient appointments as appropriate in line with government and local targets. Where this is not achievable, give notification promptly to line manager

- Dealing with ward mail and other correspondence.
- Co-ordinate the ordering of NHSP staff at the discretion of Department Manager and Deputy.
- Other clerical duties such as photocopying and faxing.
- Assist with maintenance or stores and equipment with careful stock control.
- Create Datix reports for all breaches in the department.
- Assist with keeping accurate Audits for the department.
- File all patient information accurately and securely within the health record in a timely manner in accordance with Trust policy Maintain the knowledge and skills necessary to perform your role effectively and ensure evidence of competence is provided to line manager.
- Recognise own limitations and seek advice when appropriate, identifying own learning needs to discuss with line manager/appraiser.
- Participate in an annual appraisal with relevant reviewers and to follow your personal development plan as agreed with your line manager.
- Assist in maintaining a clean and tidy environment at all times.
- Report any concerns or problems to line manager.
- Undertake all mandatory training.
- Participate in ward meetings and be involved in the decision-making process when changes take place.
