Full Job Description

· Work collaboratively to provide excellent care in the clinical area as an effective member of the clinical team, ensuring a safe environment for patients and colleagues, taking responsibility for a group of patients, participating in assessments and maintaining appropriate departmental documentation. · Assist senior staff in ensuring excellent patient care, which is planned and individualized to each patient. · Contribute to setting of standards in nursing care, evaluating the quality of care given to patients, measuring standards of excellent care through evaluation, under the direction of the senior nurse. Offering recognized training to support colleagues. · Handles complaints by patients, members of the public and colleagues in accordance with Trust Policies and assist the senior members of the team to maintain safe systems of work. · Takes responsibility for personal development and education and to discuss with senior members of the team through informal appraisal., Establish and maintain effective communication with individuals and groups about difficult or complex matters overcoming any problems/barriers in communication. Develop knowledge and practice in Diabetes and Endocrinology Monitor and maintain health, safety and security of self and others in own work area. Contribute to the development of services Assess people's health and wellbeing needs when those needs are complex and change across the caseload Plan, deliver and evaluate programmes to address patient's complex and changing health and wellbeing needs Plan, allocate, assess and provide feedback to team members. Maintain and support the efficient use of physical and /or financial resources. To contribute to the development of a learning environment To communicate with a wide range of people to explore complex issues and to make complex decisions To agree the arrangements for communication with the patient/family/carer, and to document these in accordance with Trust policy and the patients right to confidentiality. To competently receive sensitive information concerning patient's medical condition and provide information using persuasive, reassuring skills as required,.e.g. breaking bad news/special needs/dealing with anxious relatives. To ensure that essential information on the patients' condition and progress is recorded by self and team members appropriately according to NMC guidelines. To assess, identify and evaluate own knowledge and practice needs in relation to knowledge and skills required to meet the demands of the job. To understand their own role and scope, identify own development needs and take responsibility for their continuing professional development and performance whilst maintaining a personal development plan To make effective use of appropriate learning opportunities for themselves and others and apply learning to practice. To undertake annual mandatory training updates and other relevant courses in line with Trust and local policies To act as a role model and support professional development of all students and junior staff Responsible for day to day supervision, allocation and co-ordination of clinically based teams making the best use of their abilities. To lead a team whilst assuming responsibility and control of ward/unit management in the absence of the ward/unit manager To participate in the appraisal process for themselves and others To identify, report and address poor performance issues To diffuse challenging behaviour, ensuring that the situation is managed in a sensitive way. To participate in the recruitment and selection process To implement disciplinary and grievance procedures if required To ensure efficient and effective use of material resources/supplies within the ward/unit To monitor, control and store resources/supplies according to the requirements and specifications of the clinical environment To identify any problems with resource use/availability and make recommendations for corrective action To maintain accurate records of resource use . To undertake data collection effectively using the agreed systems. To ensure own actions promote quality and identify and manage any risks To lead in setting and maintaining optimal standards of care on the ward/unit To keep up to date and act consistently with quality standards and guidelines within their own clinical area and associated areas To evaluate the quality of their own and others work, and where necessary make the appropriate improvements To have an understanding of the quality agenda and how standards of care can be maintained To monitor the quality of work in own area, raise quality issues and related risks and bring to the attention of others. Training Post holders are required to attend any relevant and mandatory training for the post. Outside Employment / Outside Interests Any other work or outside interests must not conflict with the duties and responsibilities of your attendance for work as an employee of East Lancashire Hospitals Trust.   • First Level Registration Qualification in specialty to diploma/degree level, or willingness to undertake study, Appropriate Teaching assessing certificate.
