Full Job Description
On Ward 4 we are looking for a caring, compassionate and motivated individual to join our team. We are a 25 bedded ward, which is comprised of open bays and side rooms. We care for a variety of different disease groups. We treat patients with a full range of diagnostic, inpatient, and treatment needs. Alongside specialising in Altered Airways, we administer chemotherapy regimens, we also support patients during their treatment with the symptoms and side effects of treatment. We care for palliative patients providing symptom control and also end-of-life care.
As a ward host/hostess, you would assist the nursing team in ensuring patients nutritional and hydrations are maintained whilst in hospital. Ensuring correct documentation is maintained to assist members of the multidisciplinary team providing the appropriate management of patients with reduced oral intake and maintain infection control procedures on the ward. You would ensure effective communication is practiced with patients and their families at all times.
We ensure that you are prepared to start your career with us by offering you a supernumerary period where you are closely supported by the ward team. They will assist in familiarising you with the ward and colleagues as we value your wellbeing and progression. This period enables you to have the knowledge and skill to deliver exceptional care that every patient deserves., 1. To take patients menu choice and prepare their bed area in preparation for their meals.
2. To provide a pleasant and caring service maintaining a good customer relationship.
3. To liaise with the nursing staff over any individual patient dietary requirements or restrictions.
4. To serve patients with morning and afternoon drinks, including offering nutritional support drinks.
5. To work closely with the dietetic team and cascade information back to the clinical team.
6. To collect the dirty crockery/tray from the tray rack and to scrape and stack the dirty items into the appropriate baskets ready to be returned to the main kitchen.
7. To place the dirty cutlery/mugs into the ward dishwasher and turn on.
8. To communicate between the Ward and Catering department with any queries, complaints etc
9. To keep ward kitchen clean and tidy at all times.
10. To wash the patients crockery and tins from the service trolleys, using the industrial dishwashing machine.
11. To set up the clean trolleys with the crockery for the following meals as appropriate.
12. To set up the trolley with food items such as sandwiches.
13. To set up the ward baskets with the appropriate service equipment, sauces, serviettes, fruit etc.
14. Basic food preparation such as making sandwiches, cheese biscuits and setting up breakfast trays with fruit juices and butters.
15. General cleaning duties such as fridges, freezers, tables, floors, hand wash basins., 1. To take patients menu choice and prepare their bed area in preparation for their meals.

16. Removal of rubbish from the kitchen.
17. Reporting of any faults in the equipment and fabric of the unit.
18. Look after the lounge area including replenishing the drinks counter and maintaining a clean supply of cups and spoons.
19. Look after the patient breakfast area, clean and restock as required
20. Order stock items using computer software.
21. Any other duties at the discretion of the Ward Manager including additional cleaning to maintain infection control standards on the ward.
