Full Job Description

A rare and exciting opportunity has arisen on Kingfisher ward for a band 7 ward sister/charge nurse, to cover maternity leave for 12 months.Kingfisher ward is a nurse led investigation ward caring for endocrine, gastroenterology and metabolic specialities.

As the ward sister/charge nurse you must possess excellent communication and leadership skills to ensure the families are provided with high standards of care and support as well as ensuring the safe, effective and efficient management of the department within allocatedresources.

A large part of the role will be to provide expertise, advice and support to the ward team, ensuring the provision of high quality care to children, young people and their families.

As a part of your role, you will also be expected to work alongside the admissions team and service managers, to discuss the bed status on Kingfisher and to pre plan beds using the ward diary.You will be required to work clinical shifts on the ward, thereby acting as a role model and expert practitioner as well as working alongside and supporting the ward educational team to enable them to provide education and assist in implementing change. The ward sister/chargenurse is responsible for nursing recruitment and to foster an environment which enhances the retention of staff., o To be a highly competent, knowledgeable, and visible practitioner within the specialty ensuring the provision of excellent, evidence-based nursing care for the children, young people, and their families at all times.o Liaise with clinical, non-clinical and facilities staff to maintain a safe, friendly, and welcoming environment for the children, young people and their families, visitors, and staff.o Ensure that each child is assessed, and that their care is planned, implemented, and evaluated in negotiation with the family, and that this is accurately documented.o To act as an advocate for the child, young person and family ensuring the provision of appropriate information and support services.o To be an ally to the global majority and persons with protective characteristicso To communicate complex and sensitive information effectively to patients, carers and other staff, overcoming any barriers to understanding and providing support during distressing or emotional events.
