Full Job Description

+ Dealing with staffing issues
+ Performance managing staff of concern
+ Taking escalations from ward team
+ Managing the staff roster
+ Making changes to the roster
+ Dealing with RCA's and complaints
+ Completing staff appraisals
+ Attending relevant management training
+ Updating information on databases as required
+ Managing a ward round
+ Updating the handover to ensure all patient information is correct
+ Liaising with the discharge team to discharge patients
+ Patient /relative queries
+ Attend best interest meetings as required to discuss and arrange future care plan for a patient
+ Promote infection control
+ Attending meetings relevant to your role
+ Managing bed spaces and new admissions to the ward
+ Making sure any faulty equipment or any problems that arise on the ward are dealt with in a timely manner
+ Ensuring the ward is safely staffed at all times
+ Dealing with multi-disciplined teams from around the trust and any queries that arise
+ Managing staff as per the sickness, absence policy
+ Staff risk assessments
+ Ensuring you are aware and on top of any changes that effect the ward, patients or staff
+ Dealing with staff's personal issues
+ Ensuring the ward audits are completed and targets met
+ Checking ward budget monthly and reporting any discrepancies & attend monthly budget meetings
+ Ensuring the Matron's monthly audits are completed
+ Work within and promote the trust's values and policies
+ Anything else that occurs during a shift

We are looking for a nurturing and inspirational leader to be the new Band 7 ward manager of Acute Medical Unit A at QEQM Hospital. Part of the larger Acute medical floor, AMU A is a 30 bedded unit which provides a pivotal role of assessing, treating and care planning acutely unwell patients of multiple specialities and conditions.
We require the post holder to have a passion for leadership and high quality care standards with significant post registration experience, of which a portion must be at band 6 level. The post holder would be expected to work Monday to Friday 37.5 hours per week.
