Full Job Description

The post holder is responsible for the overseeing of assessments of care needs and the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care for clients with mental health needs. The post holder works under the overall supervision of the Integrated Team Manager/Matron and is required to undertake the duties of the post without direct supervision. Active participation will be required in the training and education of learners allocated to the Secure Services, and will also encourage integration between the ward teams and the community services. To carry out any other duties commensurate with the duties of this post. This is an outline job description and may be subject to change according to the needs of the service, in consultation with the post holder.

  • In liaison with the Integrated Clinical Lead/Matron, Service Manager and Director to set objectives for the delivery of care within the area and to devise ways of implementing and monitoring these.
  • To work closely with the Executive Nurse in developing nursing practice across inpatient wards.
  • To have knowledge/understanding of the legislation likely to be encountered as part of the role e.g. Mental Health Act 1983, as amended in 2007, Misuse of Drugs Act 1971, Access to Information Act 1986, Health and Safety at Work Act 1974.
  • To ensure full compliance with standards laid out in the Trusts CPA Policy & Procedure.
  • In coordination with the Integrated Clinical Lead/Matron, Service Manager and Director report and investigate incidents, complaints, accidents and ensure all appropriate documentation is completed and submitted to the Director as soon as possible after the incident.
  • Participate in and evaluate audit and research within the unit
  • To lead on infection control within the ward and ensure all Trust policies are adhered to
  • Inform Integrated Clinical Lead/Matron, Service Manager and Director on all breaches of nursing professional conduct as required by the NMC Code of Professional Conduct.
  • To be responsible for updating own knowledge of contemporary mental health services and a commitment to continuing one's own personal career development in line with Trust Appraisal and Development Policy., In addition to the above duties you will also be expected to perform the below key activities in line with your job role;
  • 1. Participate in ward meetings, initiating and discussing new methods/models of care and participate in the introduction to research or trials within a designated area. 2. Participate in holding site/unit bleep as required 3. Act at all times in accordance with:
  • Midwifery and Nursing Council Code of Professional Practice
  • Scope of Professional Practice
  • Standards for Medicines management
  • Guidelines for Records and Record keeping
  • NMC Record Keeping
  • Revalidation
  • 1. Demonstration of excellent leadership skills and the ability to delegate duties and address and resolve issues 2. Offer professional nursing leadership and ensure the highest standards of nursing practice are maintained. 3. In co-ordination with the Integrated Clinical Lead/Matron, Service Manager and Director, report and investigate incidents, i.e. complaints, accidents and any Serious Incidents, and complete appropriate documentation and submit as soon as possible after the incident, in line with policy. 4. Undertake investigations when required with regards to Serious Incidents and staff issues 5. Ensure there is a correct therapeutic environment maintained in the clinical areas 6. Ensure that admission procedure is carried out as smoothly as possible 7. Maintain equipment and organise repairs and replacements as necessary in accordance with Medical Devices Policy. 8. Ensure that adequate stock levels of drugs, dressings and CSSD packs are kept on the unit. 9. Ensure the environment is maintained to high standards at all times 10. Carry out regular audits of clinical effectiveness.
