Full Job Description

The Day Surgery and Surgical Assessment unit will admit and care for the majority of patients on an elective surgical pathway with a wide variety of surgical pathways and specialities. The Ward Manager will work closely with the Matron, surgical teams, anaesthetic colleagues and operational teams to plan and a deliver a first class clinical service. Including To take overall responsibility for ensuring safe staffing levels and the monitoring of planned versus actual staffing levels. To contribute to the facilitation of the planning, delivery, and evaluation of care pathways for patients attending the unit. To focus on patient and colleague feedback to change and drive forward service improvements using the quality improvement methodology where appropriate. Attend senior meetings regarding the service, acting up and supporting the Matron as required.

  • Contribute to the ongoing training and educational development within the unit, ensuring mandatory training and appraisal requirements are met.
  • Act as a visible role model and expert practitioner.

    Day Surgery is an integral part of the Trust's Day Care Pathway leading to opportunities to lead and develop in a variety of ways with the support of a Matron, ACP's and a well developed and engaged team.
  • The post will incorporate the senior leadership role dimensions of expert clinical practice, education, leadership, management, and research.
