Full Job Description
We are currently looking to recruit a Team Leader for the Warhead Design Safety Team in the Surety Group which is part of the Warhead Engineering sub-function. This role is ideally suited to an engineer or scientist who will be able to undertaking technical assessments and provide advice on the major hazards associated with product such as nuclear and explosives, and provide Safety information to Operators to incorporate in to their Safety Cases. This role will adapt to the candidate, as it can cover a diverse range of Safety Engineering from advising on Safety related research experiments or topics, through to teaching nuclear product safety, development of electronic Safety Case tools (eSC), undertaking nuclear safety assessments, safety management activities and product design safety. We recognise that prior experience in this role might be challenging so we can provide postgraduate level education course up to and including an MSc in Defence Nuclear Safety (Part-time). You will be accountable for delivering the functional capability and demand to the future programme requirements, applying the sub-function's strategy, and providing effective guidance as the main contact point for team members. You will be responsible for maintaining a technical capability that delivers critical skills and resources aligned to business requirements in order to deliver the integrated technical programme.,
- In line with the Leadership Blueprint, lead, coach & develop the team and influence others at specialism or functional level to create & deliver our operational plans.
- Assess staff performance, measured against agreed personal objectives and accountabilities, and take corrective action to improve performance where necessary via appropriate management interventions.
- Engage with Subject Matter Experts within the team and beyond to provide expert knowledge and technical expertise in the field of technical specialism.
- Maintain and promote high personal standards in environment, safety, health, security, and quality and be a great team player.
- Responsible for the technical quality of the work undertaken by the team and/or teams through appropriate internal (i.e. with Subject Matter Experts) and external reviews.
- Ensuring that the work undertaken by the team is consistent with AWE strategy, policies, processes, procedures, and quality standards while minimising risk to delivery of the Integrated Technical Programme.
- Responsible for knowledge capture to maintain, share, preserve and protect intellectual property.
- Providing an agile capability, delivering critical skills and resource aligned to business requirements underpinning the Programme.
- Be able to lead a multidisciplinary team. The ideal candidate will need to be willing t o undertake UK and overseas travel for conferences and collaboration.
- Should have experience of successfully leading and managing a high performing and motivated team
- Must have a proven record of accomplishment of driving delivery, performance, and continuous improvement
- Should be wiling to apply his or her own judgement/discretion
- Must have an approachable attitude and ability to deal with/manage sensitive staff issues
- Should demonstrate a working appreciation for business requirements Whilst not to be considered a tick list, we'd like you to have experience in the following:
- Defence Safety Systems Management (SMS).
- Nuclear Safety experience
Due to the classified nature of the work involved, there are limited opportunities to work from home in this role. It is anticipated that the successful candidate will spend the majority of their time working on site at AWE Aldermaston. Package: £47,690 - £73,000 (depending on your suitability, qualifications, and level of experience) A relocation package may be available (terms and conditions apply).
