RSK Geosciences now has an exciting opportunity for a Waste and Resources Consultant to join the growing team across the country, getting the opportunity to work alongside a highly experienced team and be part of a broad range of waste related projects for well known clients. The role is predominantly home based, however you would need to be within a 1 hour commute from any of these offices: Manchester, Helsby, Bristol and Hemel Hempstead. A Waste and Resources Consultant in RSK's Geosciences team is responsible for undertaking a variety of projects, from inception through to the completed output, liaising with clients along the way to meet their waste and resource management objectives whilst considering sustainability and circular economy. Projects may include waste assessment and classification, waste and material reuse optioneering and appraisals, applications for environmental permits, auditing and inspections of waste management processes and procedures, preparation of waste and environmental management plans, EIA waste and circular economy chapters and statements, together with providing advice and guidance to clients on waste management legislation and best practice and providing internal and external waste management training covering a broad range of topics. Good ability to communicate with colleagues and clients is required throughout projects alongside strong timekeeping and organisational skills. Ability to manage projects and take ownership is important with all project work being carried out with due diligence, adherence to RSK internal procedures & completed and it is expected that employees working at this grade will have an understanding of finance management, be comfortable being client facing, be self-motivated, exhibit a proactive approach, and work well within a team environment. Responsibilities:

  • Taking ownership of projects and liaising directly with clients to develop robust scope of works to meet Client objectives and write fee proposals for a wide variety of works with support from the wider team
  • Assessment and classification of construction, demolition and excavation wastes in accordance with WM3
  • Production of CL:AIRE DOW COP material management plans (MMPs) and supporting documentation
  • Advising on waste and material management options to reach sustainable outcomes and innovative solutions for clients
  • Organising and completing occasional site works including excavation waste sampling, site inspections and supervision of works
  • Preparation of documentation to support environmental permit applications, variations and surrenders
  • Supporting project teams in identifying sustainable and cost-effective waste and material reuse mechanisms
  • Providing advice and guidance to both internal RSK teams and external clients on waste and resources management
  • Supporting in the preparation and delivery of bespoke training both to internal colleagues and external clients
  • Preparing construction environmental management plans and site waste management plans
  • Providing support to senior members in RSK's Waste and Resource team creating business development and marketing materials

    BSc degree level qualified in Environmental Science / Environmental Management, Geology or a related subject essential
  • MSc degree level qualified in Waste Management or Environmental discipline desirable
  • Understanding of fundamentals of waste legislation and policy in the UK essential
  • Experience undertaking geo-environmental intrusive site investigations, contaminated land risk assessments and CL:AIRE DOW COP MMPs, desirable
  • Knowledge of and some experience in waste classification, environmental (waste) permitting and environmental management and auditing
  • Ability to liaise with regulators, clients and suppliers desirable
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent time management and organisational skills, managing several projects at once
  • Prepared to work as part of a team or as an individual
  • Candidates must be willing to spend some of their working days away from the office at meetings, on site and away from home at times.
  • Full UK driving licence.
