Full Job Description

We are looking for the right individual to play a key role in the development of waste collection and disposal strategies and to ensure their delivery sees Wolverhampton achieving and exceeding the national targets. You will be responsible for:

  • Operational service delivery and managing the day to day operational waste service with the support of an existing experienced management team.

  • Aligning all service and strategic operations to the council's our city our plan and including our wider climate change objectives.

  • Overseeing and developing all commercial elements of the service, including the paid for garden waste service, trade waste business, and other potential chargeable services generating income for the council.

  • Ensuring compliance with budgets, environmental and health & safety requirements.

  • Contract development and management.

    Wolverhampton City Council are looking for an experienced, enthusiastic, and highly motivated Waste Professional to lead both the inhouse waste services team and be a key part of developing and delivering the council's long term waste strategies. With many waste disposal challenges and changes on the horizon we are looking for an experienced innovative and forward-thinking professional to join our team and shape our future services., Preferably educated to degree level, or with substantial experience in Waste Management and with excellent communication skills, you will have a proven track record in delivering safe, efficient, and compliant waste collection services ideally within a local authority setting, as well as experience of developing and implementing waste strategies and policies for public sector organisations. You will have a good understanding of the key drivers and legislation needed for the safe and legal operation of the waste collection service. Previous experience of working within a political arena and managing waste transfer activities including household waste centres will also be useful for the role.
