Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service has a fantastic opportunity available for a Watch Manager Call Back - Special Operations Team Lead to join our National Resilience Call Back team based in Exeter on a permanent contract.,

  • Manage, monitor and evaluate that all activities undertaken by the Special Operations team contribute to the achievement of the Special Operations station action plans and targets.
  • Support the Special Operations team in the development of relationships within the Service and with other organisations developing partnerships where possible.
  • Ensure that National and Service policy, procedures, guidance and processes are communicated, implemented and complied with accordingly.
  • Participate in the Personal Development Review process and to identify personal training and development needs and to attend training events as directed, including National Resilience technical courses at the Fire Service College or equivalent.
  • Support the development of a new, motivated and energetic culture within the Special Operations Team ensuring a positive approach to all aspects of the role.

    Be a competent Crew Manager
  • Be a competent USAR Technician
  • Have good leadership skills
  • Not subject to formal performance improvement actions, nor have any live disciplinary sanctions
  • Discussed the opportunity with your Line Manager
  • Live within a 30-minute response to Station 60
  • Whilst it is desirable, it is not essential to have attended a Leading Others Assessment Centre., You will also need to detail how you meet the following essential requirements of the role:
  • Experience working in the field of specialist rescue and/or National Resilience
  • Sound operational knowledge and experience and an appreciation of the dynamic environment in which the Special Operations team operates and all other National Resilience assets.
  • Ability/potential to command an incident commensurate with the role of Watch Manager.
  • Proven ability in implementing policy and clear awareness and commitment to Service objectives.
  • Ability to manage resources efficiently and effectively, monitoring and maintaining the required standards.
  • Good understanding of a USAR Co-ordination Cell and the roles and responsibilities undertaken within it.
