Full Job Description
The Water Resource Policy & Regulation Manager will lead the Permitting & Compliance team. The team is responsible for obtaining abstraction licenses and drought permits, assuring abstraction returns and ensuring compliance with abstraction licence conditions, investigating any breaches of licence conditions and reporting to the Environment Agency (EA) on such matters. The team also take a lead on monitoring and reporting the water resources situation and ensuring that we are 'application ready' for drought interventions such as drought orders and drought permits and managing the application processes for any drought permits or orders if required.
- Manage a team (currently three) of technical abstraction policy specialists.
- Engagement with EA, NE and other stakeholders regarding abstraction permits and droughts.
- Working in close partnership with the EA, you will hold regular stakeholder meetings to update them of our compliance position and ensure the accuracy of the water abstraction data we share with them.
- Ensure the accuracy of the water abstraction data which is submitted to the EA.
- Act as an SME on regulatory framework for abstraction and drought permits.
- Prepare to make drought permits and drought orders when needed as well as prepare abstraction licence applications., Our customers are at the heart of everything we do, because delivering water for life is our core purpose. - Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build good working relationships, internally and externally.
- Excellent knowledge of abstraction and drought permitting regulations.
- Knowledge of Drought planning, WRMP and WINEP.
- Line management experience of technical teams.
- Interdisciplinary coordination across different teams within the business to secure best management of water resources.
- Management of budgets, management (scoping, procurement and delivery) of studies and investigations using external consultants.
- Degree in a relevant subject e.g. Ecology, Geography or the equivalent work experience.
