Full Job Description

You will be responsible for coordinating a team of welding fabricators in manufacturing high quality fabricated and welded parts that supply a vast variety of industries. The role will be accountable for ensuring compliance with EN ISO 3834-2 comprehensive company quality management system for both internal and subcontract welding activities reporting directly to the General Manager. Typically the key responsibilities for the role will be as defined, but not limited to the below;

  • Responsible for reviewing, planning and managing the execution of all technical welding activities.
  • Identifying and developing new weld procedures as required by project, including management of sourcing equipment, materials and resource.
  • Ensuring sufficient resource is available and qualified to perform required welding tasks, this also includes ensuring revalidation of welder qualifications is performed in line with code or client requirements.
  • Monitoring performance of welding activities on a monthly basis and developing actions plans for continuous improvement.
  • Developing instruction to staff through method statements or tool box talks to ensure a right first time approach is implemented.
  • Ensure that technical procedures for the safe use and storage of welding consumables are adhered too.
  • Responsible for managing the maintenance and calibration of all welding and heat treatment equipment.
  • Supporting the health and safety team with all applicable aspects relating to welding and heat treatment within their responsibility.
  • Supporting quality or project teams with technical queries or issues found relating to welding, this may include contributing to 8D, Ishikawa, 5 whys and FMEA reviews.

    Diploma in welding at Specialist, Technologist or Engineer level (or with the willingness to work towards the qualification).
  • Ideally hold a minimum of a HNC in welding & fabrication or equivalent, and intermediate relevant experience.
  • Preferable to have a professional membership status registered with the Engineering Council (CEng, IEng or EngTech).
  • Required Experience of managing a team and coordinating relatively technical activities.
  • Understanding of quality management systems in accordance EN ISO 3834-2 and EN ISO 9001.
  • Must have strong experience working with TIG, MMA, MIG/MAG and FCAW welding processes.
  • Experience working with fully mechanised welding equipment (robotic and column & boom systems) would be advantageous.
  • Experience of manufacturing equipment for high integrity projects, desirably in stainless steels, creep resistant steels, nickel alloys and cast iron.
  • Advantageous to have experience working with resistance and/or power beam welding processes.
  • Preferably have had previous national SC security vetting.
