Full Job Description

The Wellbeing and Disability Service are looking to appoint a 0.8 FTE and 0.6 FTE Wellbeing Adviser to offer student appointments.

The successful applicants will support students via an initial one-to-one assessment and signpost and refer on as appropriate within the Wellbeing Service. They will also assist in promoting mental health awareness amongst university staff and students and provide support to staff working closely with students with mental health difficulties.

Applicants will have a HE qualification or equivalent and a relevant professional qualification (e.g. CPN, Counselling, BA/BScSW or equivalent) and have significant relevant experience as a professional mental health practitioner, in an education or a community-based setting. An understanding of the difficulties facing students with mental health conditions in an HE context is essential.

A full list of Essential and Desirable criteria can be seen in the Person Specification. This role will provide you with an opportunity to utilise your range of Mental Health expertise and interpersonal skills.

If you're a Welsh learner or a Welsh speaker, we'd be delighted to receive your application. At USW, you'll have access to Welsh courses to enable you to develop your Welsh skills further, in order to provide a bilingual service to our students, colleagues and the public.

We welcome applications in Welsh and English. Applications in Welsh will not be treated less favourably than those made in English.

This is a part time, fixed term contract until 4th April 2025. Working days/times to be discussed on receipt of job offer.

The university is currently operating a hybrid-model of working. However, the successful candidate would be expected to work on campus for part of the week.

If you are a successful candidate and this position will be your first professional services role at the University (or you are currently employed by PSS Ltd), you will be employed by Professional and Support Services Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of the University of South Wales, which provides services to the University and Colleges. If you are an internal professional services candidate, you will continue to be employed by the University of South Wales.
