Part time hours - minimum hours accepted will be 29 hours per week over 4 or 5 days., The Welsh Language Unit (WLU) is an award winning, highly regarded specialist unit within HMCTS, which also provides a Welsh language translation service for the wider MoJ. The Welsh Language Support Manager role sits at the heart of the WLU and works closely with both the Head of Welsh Language Services and the Head of Translation.
Having both an operational and policy focus the post will have line management responsibility for two EO posts, namely the Business Manager and Designer functions.
The key purpose of the role is to
To continue to develop HMCTS Welsh Language services and its compliance with the provisions of its Welsh Language Scheme., To deliver a consistent and customer focussed service through the Welsh language.
Ensure effective deployment of resources to meet operational needs.
Ensure the delivery of Welsh language related objectives.
Act as Responsible Officer as required., Operations
To have operational day to day responsibility for the delivery of all Welsh language functions other than translation, i.e the administrative, telephony and design functions; together with the relevant line management of staff.
To ensure all Welsh language statistics are collected and reported monthly to the Head of Welsh Language Services.
To assist with the provision of Welsh language mediation for money claims in the civil jurisdiction by being trained as a mediator.
Maintain effective working relationships with the judiciary, supporting agencies, voluntary and user groups. Working with agencies to improve the level of service offered to users.
Ensure that team targets are met and resources are managed to deliver highly effective performance.
Identify process improvements, understanding and managing associated risks; building on team strengths to deliver business outcomes.
Ensure that Governance, risk management registers and contingency plans are in place and updated annually/monthly.
To ensure HMCTS is informed in relation to customer feedback on its Welsh language services.
To take the lead responsibility for HMCTS Welsh language social media activity.
To represent the Welsh Language Unit on various internal meetings as directed by the Head of Welsh Language Services.
To work closely with other Government Departments in relation to Welsh language service delivery, attending relevant meetings, sharing information, and bringing back good practice.
To lead on the practical daily working relationship between the WLU and the various CTSCs to ensure a smooth operating relationship.
To assist with the secretariat work for the Lord Chancellors Welsh Language Standing Committee
Policy
To advise on the provisions of HMCTS Welsh Language Scheme for HMCTS policymakers and project managers as required.
To contribute to the evolution of the Welsh Language Scheme at every iteration taking both feedback and the current situation in relation to language planning into mind.
To assist with the drafting of HMCTS Annual Monitoring Report to the Welsh Language Commissioner.
To work with various stakeholders to improve the provision on Welsh language services across the justice sector.
To undertake any other duty as directed by the Head of Welsh Language Services or the Head of Translation.
To investigate any complaints received in relation to Welsh language services, liaising with the business as appropriate and providing the Head of Welsh Language Services with the findings.
Analysis
To monitor the uptake of Welsh language services and investigate accordingly if usage is particularly low.
To interrogate various Welsh language related statistics to identify relevant areas of attention.
To develop activity to promote the use of the language within HMCTS Wales.
To maintain HMCTS list of Welsh speakers and learners.

To have a working knowledge of language planning in Wales.
Ability to speak and write in Welsh to a very high standard.
