The Whole Lifecycle Costing team is a small yet necessary function within Telecoms Operations. We sit within Telecoms Asset Management, and work within a community which are based across the entire network. The team itself is centred at Milton Keynes, however an applicant can work at Manchester, Milton Keynes, or London, and we will organise how we interact upon starting. Our aim is to support the Telecoms asset management team, the Technical Authority, and the five Regions, in three main area:

  • Data enablement – we are working to unify Network Rails telecommunication data, providing a ‘single source of truth’ for the wider business to access and benefit from. This involves the understanding of large datasets across many platforms, and developing a solution which can host them and provide a portal for the business to make use of it.
  • Whole Lifecycle Costing – we are developing a new model to forecast costs and risks for future Telecoms business plans. This is a very interesting endeavour, as it requires the understanding of common risk methodologies, such as failure and impact, but also modelling obsolescence, as well as forecasting very low-frequency, high-risk failures.
  • Business intelligence – we support many areas within Network Rail, providing new ways to understand and present the data we utilise. This involves building interactive reports, mobile apps, forecasting models, to name a few. We are always supporting new areas of the business, allowing us to increase our influence and improve how the business understand Telecoms.
  • About the role (External) To support the implementation of one or more areas of Network Rail’s strategy for whole lifecycle costing (WLC), from the development of the models through to the embedding of whole life decision making in the company’s strategic and investment planning processes, supporting both central functions and the operating routes. What will you be doing?
  • Support the development, coordination and monitoring of the work programme for implementing the asset management strategy.
  • Support specific activities within the asset management work programme, working across asset disciplines and business functions.
  • Support the production of an annual report on the implementation and further development of lifecycle models, with interim progress reports as required.
  • Support the development, coordination and monitoring of the work programme for implementing whole lifecycle models.
  • Provide analysis to support the application of whole lifecycle models across applications, disciplines and functions.
  • Provide analysis to support individual whole lifecycle model developments.
  • Maintain awareness of developments in whole lifecycle costing, e.g. via the Institute of Asset Management, universities.

    Degree in numerate discipline
