The women's team were originally formed as a non-professional team in 1991 and were highly successful in the early 2000s winning The FA Cup, the League Cup, and the Charity Shield, as well as coming runners-up in the top division in multiple seasons. In February 2021, the club acquired the Charlton Athletic Women's team, turning the team full-time professional, and integrating them to become one club again.
Currently, our men's first team competes in League One, the third tier of English football, and our women's team competes in the Women's Championship, the second highest division of women's football in England. At Charlton, we are 'one club' and can be truly described as a 'family club'.
Role Description:
The purpose of this role is:
To develop and deliver the Psychology service provision for the Women's First Team at Charlton Athletic Football Club.
Facilitate an aligned delivery of Psychology provision across all programmes at Charlton Athletic Football club (Mens, Boys, Womens, Girls).
To work with the Women's First Team staff and Director of Performance Services to formulate the Charlton Athletic Psychology strategy, and ensure alignment with Performance Services and Coaching strategies., Formulate individual athlete psychological screening and monitoring tools to identify areas of support.
Psychological profiling of individual athletes, and contribution towards individual development plan formulation.
Design, deliver and evaluate individual psychological support interventions.
Deliver appropriate psychological support within the limitations of expertise, referring to specialist support where required.
Regularly review the impact of performance psychology support across the Women's First Team programme.
Contribute towards multidisciplinary team processes and holistic athlete support mechanisms.
Collaborate with science and medical staff members to deliver on the Performance Services departmental strategy.
Work in conjunction with Women's First Team staff and Director of Performance Services to embed performance psychology into all aspects of athlete performance support.
Ensure an aligned philosophy of psychological support between the Women's First Team and Girl's Academy.
Maintain comprehensive records and database of work conducted with athletes.
Contribute towards in-house research projects, contributing towards scientific literature.
Qualification at degree level in an appropriate subject.
Qualification at higher degree level in an appropriate subject (MSc or equivalent).
Registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
Current holder of British Psychological Society (BPS) Chartered Status, or British Association of Sport and Exercise Sciences (BASES) Sport and Exercise Psychology Accreditation Route.
Specific Experience:
Experience as a practicing registered psychologist.
Experience in providing psychological support to professional athletes to improve performance.
Experience of translating evidence-based information into understandable advice for different stakeholders.
Experience of designing and implementing psychological education and resources in an elite sporting environment.
Experience of working within a multi-disciplinary team to deliver holistic performance services to high performing athletes.
Experience of understanding the requirements of elite athletes in a high-performance environment.

Charlton Athletic Football Club is an English professional association football club based in Charlton, south-east London. The club was founded on June 9th, 1905 and has a very storied history from rising to the top-flight of English Football in the 1930s (First Division) and again in the 1980s, 1990s and 2000s, to winning the FA Cup in 1947 and to leaving their Valley home in the mid-1980s only to make an impassioned return in 1992. Historically, the women's team played under Charlton Athletic from 2000 to 2007 but were released to become an independently run team in 2007 following the men's team's relegation from the Premier League.
This a full time role that includes work on weekends and evenings;
