Full Job Description

We are looking for a skilled and dedicated Workshop Technician to support in the classroom/workshop delivery of Solar Panel Technician training. The ideal candidate will provide technical support for college workshops and classroom setups, assisting both assessor and students Learners with equipment, tools, and materials. This role is essential in maintaining a safe and productive learning environment, ensuring that all equipment is operational and that students Learners can effectively engage in hands-on learning experiences.

Your Responsibilities

Classroom and Workshop Support:

  • Set up and prepare workshop spaces and classrooms for practical sessions, ensuring all necessary tools, equipment, and materials are available and in good working order.

  • Assist faculty in demonstrating the correct and safe use of workshop equipment and machinery during instructional sessions.


  • Equipment Maintenance and Repairs:
  • Perform and/or arrange routine maintenance and repairs on workshop equipment, tools, and machinery, including woodworking, metalworking, and electronic equipment.

  • Ensure all equipment is safe and compliant with institutional and industry standards.


  • Safety and Compliance:
  • Monitor and enforce safety protocols in the workshop / classroom environments, including the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).

  • Conduct regular safety inspections and report any hazards or safety concerns to the Solar PV Tutor and or Delivery Manager.


  • Technical Assistance and Training:
  • Provide technical advice and support to faculty and Learners on the use of workshop equipment and materials.

  • Assist in the development of instructional materials, such as guides or manuals, for workshop tools and equipment.


  • Collaboration and Communication:
  • Collaborate with faculty to understand course requirements and provide input on the best tools and equipment to achieve educational objectives.

  • Communicate effectively with students, faculty, and other team members to ensure smooth operation of the workshop.

    Has previous experience of working in an educational environment in a similar role or within the industrial environment.

  • Has previous experience of specialist technical equipment or has supported within the relevant areas.

  • Has practical knowledge and certification of health and safety procedures relevant to any of the subjects.

  • Can be responsible for preparing project materials/ingredients and general resources to support the department, including the use and maintenance of tools and equipment
