Full Job Description

As an integral part of the Camera Enforcement team, you will work independently to enforce, working alone in a designated vehicle, using mobile speed recording equipment, vehicles which do not comply with the speed limits on the road network within the West Yorkshire Police area. This is not an office-based role, it is a public facing enforcement role., Applicants should be aware that it is not always possible to carry out adequate vetting checks on persons who have not been resident within the UK for the last three years. Therefore, where this applies, applicants may be refused because it was not possible to vet them to the appropriate standard.

After relevant training, you will have the ability to work with back-office camera systems to enforce, using mobile and fixed speed recording equipment, the speed limits on designated roads. You will also support the Judicial process by presenting expert evidence at Magistrates and Crown Court in relation to all areas of speed enforcement.

To be considered, you will have similar experience of working in a public facing role, a proven understanding of computer applications such as MS Office, and a working knowledge of relevant common operating systems such as MS Windows.

You will be required to complete a manual lifting and handling course, as well as hold a full current UK Manual driving licence (Automatic licence is not applicable) and the ability to travel for business purposes. Due to the nature of the role, you must have the emotional resilience to deal with challenging situations.

West Yorkshire Police is looking to recruit a number of Speed Camera Enforcement Operators to join its Central Prosecution & Casualty Prevention Unit based in Bradford.

Working arrangements are 37 hours per week on a rotational shift basis. This will include weekend working which will attract a 14% enhancement, as applicable. For information, you will be required to work unsupervised. The work pattern is 0600 to 1600 /1400 to 2200 on a 6 on/3 off basis. This includes weekend working, but no bank holiday working.

Relevant training will be given in the operating procedures relating to type approved speed detection devices linked to recording equipment, camera devices, and associated requirements. You must therefore possess a basic understanding of speed legislation and the Highway Code.
